the process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one's life and claiming one's rights.


Last year we have girls attending our Summer Camp from Spain, Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, and various states in the U.S.


Our Summer Camp is open for girls ages 6 to 17 yrs old. The Camp is offered from Monday to Friday from 10am to 4 pm.  


Summer Camp Dates:  June 15 to August 21 (10 Weeks)


The Camp is offered in Culver City!


To date, SHIELD has provided self defense training for over 20,000 women and girls in Southern California

Our Summer Camp's main goal is to have the girls have the Most FUN & EMPOWERING time, while becoming proficient in Self Defense skills, increase focus, become physically & mentally stronger, increase coordination, boost confidence, and increase situational awareness.

Structured Program for Empowerment

  • SHIELD Self Defense Classes!  – This course will teach you how to have confidence and how to be safe around bullies and strangers! You will learn how to  do: Palm Strikes, Elbow Strikes, Knee Strikes, Kicking, Blocking, Takedowns, and Grappling! It’s awesome! The drills we do are fun exercises that are designed to increase your ability to move and change direction and position of the  body quickly and effectively while under control. It increases quick  reflexes, coordination, balance, speed, and  correct response to the  changing situation.
  • Self Awareness & Building Confidence Workshop! - Through guided group discussions and individual exercises, the girls will learn to become more aware of themselves, their values, beliefs, strength & weaknesses. Once they figure out more about themselves, we guide them to stay true to their values and beliefs.  
  • Yoga & Meditation Classes! Meditation & Yoga classes teaches you on how to remain center in chaos. It trains students to increase focus and train the mind to be quiet for a moment. 
  • Healthy Relationship Workshops! - In this workshop, the girls will learn what healthy & unhealthy relationships look like. They will learn to   empower each other, learn to accept differences, how to communicate feelings, and what to do when they are faced with problems. The girls will also learn how to have healthy disagreements.  
  • Dance Classes!  -  This action packed class is a blast! Girls enjoy learning  fun new “cool dance moves,” and routines!  
  • And So Much More Fun Activities!

  • Balance!  -  Balance is defines as the correct body placement within a space or determined movement. 
  • Coordination!   -  Coordination is the physical ability that allows a person to  perform orderly movements that are aimed toward executing a specific  technical action. 
  • Speed!  -  Speed is the basic physical ability to perform gestures in the shortest amount possible. 
  • Strength!  -  Strength is defined as the subject’s physical ability to lift, support or defeat a weight of mass by muscle action. 
  • Agility!  -  Agility is the ability to react rapidly with adequate movement to changing situations. 
  • Spatial Perception!  -   We define Spatial Perception as the knowledge of the environment and  its surroundings. It is also known as situational awareness. It involves the subject’s awareness of their situation and possible situations in their surrounding space. 
  • Body Perception!  -   Body perception is a cognitive structure that provides the human body  recognition in any situation and the information needed to establish  relations with the environment, including self awareness, and its  position in space.

Water Sports Lessons

  • Stand-Up Paddle Boarding Lessons! – Learning how to improve balance and increase core strength while enjoying the ocean breeze.       
  • Kayaking Lessons! – Kayaking also increases core strength, coordination and upper body strength. It's so much fun to kayak safely around the Marina.
  • Sailing Lessons! – Sailing is very relaxing and increases coordination, core strength, and spatial awareness.
  • And More Outdoor Activities! 


All instructors and coaches for the water sports activities are UCLA employees who hold current Red Cross CPR and First Aid certifications.
