The Camp's main goal is to have the young ladies have the Most FUN & EMPOWERING Summertime, while becoming proficient in women's self defense training, increase focus, become physically stronger, healthier diet, increase coordination, boost confidence, increase situational awareness and become more comfortable in social setting and/or dating scenes!

Indoor Training Ground


  • SHIELD Women's Self Defense Classes!  – This course will teach you how to have confidence and how to be safe around bullies and strangers! You will learn how to  do: Palm Strikes, Elbow Strikes, Knee Strikes, Kicking, Blocking, Takedowns, and Grappling! It’s awesome! The drills we do are fun exercises that are designed to increase your ability to move and change direction and position of the  body quickly and effectively while under control. It increases quick  reflexes, coordination, balance, speed, and  correct response to the  changing situation.
  • Nutrition Workshops - Led by a Certified Nutritionist and Best Selling Cookbook Author, this workshop will demystify the complex subject of what "eating well" means. It will include informative talks, hands-on instruction, and, of course, tasting deliciously healthful food!
  • Dance Classes!  -  This  action packed class is a blast! Girls enjoy learning  fun new dances, “cool dance moves,” and routines! In our camp, learning  to dance is about learning to control one's body's movements and moving  with one's core. With upbeat music playing, they will be improving  coordination and core strength while having a blast!
  • Yoga & Meditation Classes! Meditation & Yoga classes teaches you on how to remain center in chaos. It trains students to increase focus and train the mind to be quiet for a moment. Teenage girls LOVE this class!

Structured Program to increase Motor Skills

  • Balance!  -  Balance is defines as the correct body placement within a space or determined movement. 
  • Coordination!   -  Coordination is the physical ability that allows a person to  perform orderly movements that are aimed toward executing a specific  technical action. 
  • Speed!  -  Speed is the basic physical ability to perform gestures in the shortest amount possible. 
  • Strength!  -  Strength is defined as the subject’s physical ability to lift, support or defeat a weight of mass by muscle action. 
  • Agility!  -  Agility is the ability to react rapidly with adequate movement to changing situations. 
  • Spatial Perception!  -   We define Spatial Perception as the knowledge of the environment and  its surroundings. It is also known as situational awareness. It involves the subject’s awareness of their situation and possible situations in their surrounding space. 
  • Body Perception!  -   Body perception is a cognitive structure that provides the human body  recognition in any situation and the information needed to establish  relations with the environment, including self awareness, and its  position in space.  

Outdoor Water Sports


  • Stand-Up Paddle Boarding Lessons! – Learning how to improve balance and increase core strength while enjoying the ocean breeze.       
  • Kayaking Lessons! – Kayaking also increases core strength, coordination and upper body strength. It's so much fun to kayak safely around the Marina.
  • Sailing Lessons! – Sailing is very relaxing and increases coordination, core strength, and spatial awareness.
  • And So Much More Outdoor and Beach Activities! 

All instructors and coaches for the water sports activities are UCLA employees who hold current Red Cross CPR and First Aid certifications.

What does my daugher need to bring to summer camp each day?

They can pack some snacks and a bagged lunch each day, or we order some sandwiches from Quizno's next door. Your daughter will also want to bring summer camp appropriate clothing such as: T-shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes. On water sports day, they need to bring towels and extra clothes. There is no swimming involved. 

Who works in your summer camp?

We hire the BEST in the industry to work at SHIELD Camp! ALL of the Summer Camp Coaches that we hire are Women. They must pass a background check and SHIELD Coaches Academy where we train them on SHIELD Women's Self Defense System, as well as how to successfully host summer camp activities! Our workshop leaders are professionals, certified teachers, former pro athletes, and highly experienced summer camp professionals!



 

What will my daughter learn in the Camp?

Women's Self Defense Training!

The core of this Camp is SHIELD Women's Self Defense daily training, led by the founder of SHIELD, Nelson Nio.  Students will experience what it is like to be jolted off the ground and fight back with full force. Class discussions include body mechanics of a fight, situational awareness, school shooting safety, dating  violence, and studies on sexual assault in Southern California.


Water Sports Lessons!

Sailing, Kayaking, and Stand Up Paddle Board lessons are conducted at UCLA's premier water-front recreation facility in Marina del Rey. The lessons are conducted by UCLA team who go through extensive training in both water activities and in working with youth. They hold current Red Cross CPR and First Aid certifications. There is always someone onsite qualified to drive safety boats for further activity supervision. 


Nutrition Workshops!  

From diets to doughnuts, nutrition can be a tricky topic. Chef Ariane, a bestselling cookbook author and certified nutritionist who has worked with an array of A-list celebrities, will demystify the complex subject of what "eating well" means. Workshops will include informative talks, hands-on instruction, and, of course, tasting deliciously healthful food! 


Dance: Girl Power Choreography! 

This class is meant to praise female power which breaks down fun,  playful dance moves then put together for an exciting and sassy combination by the end of class. It’s a great opportunity to improve your motor skills, balance, confidence and stage presence all while celebrating our Devine femininity. Teen girls love learning cool dance moves and routines. 


Meditation & Flow Yoga!  

This class will break down the fundamental techniques needed to safely  move throughout a yoga practice. You will learn how to internally work  the skeletal structure & muscles in the body to encourage pliability  to the ligaments and rejuvenation of the nervous system.

Meditation sharpens the mind. It increases focus, quiets down the mind chatters, and reduces stress.

Days: Monday to Thursday

Camp Hours: 10am to 3pm
